So unless you live in a freakin cave you know today is april 20th 2011 (aka 420, the national holiday for pot smokers everywhere). And to be honest quite possibly my favorite holiday aside from thanksgiving and christmas time and the july 4th. but anyways, what a great creation, and here are a few photos to celebrate. This is a map. A map of what? A map of the United States and the current state of medical marijuana legality. Ya know I have a great admiration for medical marijuana. it has provided us on the legalize it side of the equation to essentially re-brand ourselves as crusaders for fair and high quality medicine. and i am a firm believer that medical marijuana will be completely legal long before recreational, taxed, and regulated marijuana is legal. but it is happening folks, at a rate wwe never thought possible. alot of people from that culture wars era of the 60's passed on this idea to their children and now those childrens children are practicing and preaching these ideals. we are winning the war on drugs, we are winning in the prohibition of marijuana, we are winning in our fight for equality and what is right, and soon we will all have the chance to use in a private manner without any worry of the law coming down on us.
so i will call it right now on the blog. i think the first southern state to make this happen will me north carolina. not mississippi, north carolina. why? well its the most liberal place in the south of course. it will happen soon folks, but for now the states in green are the places that you can use medical pot. and one day it will be all green on that map. 50 years ago, hell even 10 years ago many people never thought this day would come when this became a national discussion piece. it's still hush hush inside washington d.c. but here in the real world it all the rage, and the main ages who support this cause? 18-30 year olds. that group is large, and in power. we were the group that rallied and got the president elected (the young vote was a major push for barack), and if we did it there, why not here? if you are like one of millions of american youths, and sit around smoking marijuana, having good talks, smiling faces, reading books, and trying to change the world, congratulations. but i still have one problem here. you should be in the streets, on the phone, writing letters, e-mailing, and every other form of communication you can to get in touch with your state congressmen and women, state senators, state governor, US congressmen or women, US senator, and even the president himself. you should be calling for the legalization of something so beautiful, so peaceful, so easy going, in the name of medicine, our rights, and our equality it must be done! go to google find out who your elected officials are, and tell them to do what is right!
Now my last thing here is the constitutionality of making marijuana illegal.
The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people. -Ninth Amendment of the United States Constitution Basically any rights we as Americans held before the creation of the constitution, are retained even if not mentioned in the constitution itself. So the DOI gives us teh right to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness (ill give a whole blog post to the person who can tell me what that originally was and who originally thought of it). Numerous founding fathers grew the hemp plant for industrial uses, but George Washington even logged in his writing about not destroying the male plants to pollinate with female plants. in 1619 in the jamestown colony of virginia, you were required, ordered by law to grow hemp, and if you didn't it carried a substantial fine, massachusets in 1631, connecticut in 1632, and the chassapeak colonies into the early 1700's. for nearly 200 years in america you could pay your taxes with hemp. so with all this legal precedent, the weed that won the west is still illegal, and classified as one of the worst drugs in the world. it's lies folks, we know it's lies and its time we stand up and end the lying, and get this shit legalized in all forms! call your government officials, they will listen. tell your friends, tell new friends, tell everybody you know the importance of being NORML and that it's high time we stand up and do what is not just right for this country, but what is right for us as human beings. it is about than just getting high, its about equal rights, and fair access to medicine and a the pursuit of happiness (which if you ask me can only be attained by smoking pot). happ 420 readers, now go smoke it out and eat all that shit in your cabinet.
